Udyam Registration, commonly referred to as MSME Registration, is a government initiative aimed at promoting and supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India. It was introduced by the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and officially launched on July 1, 2020.

This registration is completely online and designed to simplify the process for small businesses to gain official recognition under the MSME category. Once a business completes the registration process, it is officially classified as an ‘Udyam’, and the procedure is known as Udyam Registration.

Upon successful registration, businesses receive a unique identification number and an official Udyam Registration Certificate.

Udyam Registration Process

  • Visit Portal: Go to the Udyam Registration website and select “For New Entrepreneurs.”
  • Aadhaar Verification: Enter Aadhaar details and validate using OTP.
  • PAN Verification: Provide PAN details and validate.
  • Fill Registration Form: Enter business and personal details.
  • Investment & Turnover: Submit financial details and complete with final OTP.
  • Certificate Issued: Registration certificate is sent via email.

Documents Required for Udyam Registration

To register for MSME Udyog Aadhaar (now called Udyam Registration), the following documents are typically required,

  • Aadhaar Card of the applicant (for proprietorships) or Authorized Signatory (for companies or other entities).
  • PAN Card of the business.
  • Business Address Proof (rent agreement, sale deed, or utility bills).
  • Bank Account Details (bank name, account number, IFSC code).
  • GSTIN (if applicable, for businesses that are GST-registered).
  • Income Tax Returns (ITR) (optional, but needed for certain categories).
