Overview of FSSAI License & Registration
Any foodbusiness operator (FBO)—whether running a restaurant, bakery, hotel, cloud kitchen, or street stall—must obtain FSSAI registration or license through the FOSCOS portal before starting operations.
Required for anyone who manufactures, prepares, stores, transports, distributes, or sells food, the license is issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), an autonomous agency under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
FSSAI not only registers and licenses FBOs but also sets and enforces the regulations that govern how food businesses are run across the country.
FSSAI Registration & License Process
- File Form A or Form B on the FOSCOS portal (or submit the same form offline to the Food Safety Department).
- Upload/submit the required supporting documents with the application.
- The department reviews the application within 7 days and may inspect the premises.
- When all conditions are satisfied, an FSSAI registration certificate with your unique license number is issued.
- Download the certificate from FOSCOS and display it prominently at your place of business.
